Oncology nurses nowadays face challenging roles with very little preparation or support when providing end-of-life (EOL) counseling. An educational program to promote effective mentoring relationships may help reduce the attrition of staffs, where both experienced and inexperienced practitioners would learn with today’s time pressures. Critical incident reports (CIRs) (Griffin, 2003), as a tool to keep track of observations, have proven to be ideal when reflective learning was used to teach professional development: it addresses values and attitudes, promotes moral and psychological growth, and then solves practical problems, particularly for ethically sensitive accounts.
