Identifying an animal model for insulin resistance associated overactive bladder

Background:

There is a subtype of overactive bladder (OAB) that is strongly associated with insulin resistance (impaired fasting glucose or DM)1

Research on OAB pathogenesis in insulin resistance is limited by a lack of representative models that replicate chronic physiology2

Male Sprague-Dawley rats on high fat diets develop metabolic syndrome & non-voiding contractions but may also have prostatic hypertrophy; bladder function has not been characterized in female SD rats3

Female Wistar rats on high fructose diets develop non-voiding contractions but results are inconsistent 4,5
 
Objective:

To characterize bladder function in female SD and Wistar rats under different dietary conditions that promote insulin resistance
