Improving Peri-Operative Antibiotic Prophylaxis in Neurosurgery
Use of peri-operative prophylactic antibiotics is an important part of Surgical Site Infection management. In neurosurgery, the immune-privileged nature of the CNS and the potentially devastating nature of surgical infection make correct use imperative. In addition, emergency cases are brought from other hospitals and other factors mean more patients are considered high risk for MRSA. Elective cases are often long. We suspected that compliance with Trust guidelines was suboptimal.
