SEPSIS CAUSED BY SERRATIA SPECIES IN PRETERM INFANTS: CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND OUTCOME

Serratia species is a well-recognized pathogen of severe nosocomial infections in neonatal intensive care units. Sepsis caused by Serratia species is difficult to treat because of the strain’s resistance to antibiotics including beta-lactams and aminoglycosides. Preterm neonates are particularly vulnerable population for sepsis of any cause. There is a considerable controversy with respect to clinical course and predictors of Serratia species sepsis outcome in preterm neonates.
