MANAGEMENT OF BLADDER STONES WITH TRANSURETHRAL PNEUMATIC CYSTOLITHOTRIPSY
PURPOSE: The treatment options currently available include open surgery ,transurethral pneumatic cystolithotripsy, percutaneous suprapubiccystolithotomy , ESWL or laser cystolithotripsy as e new minimally invasivemodality . The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness oftransurethral pneumatic cystolithotripsy in treatment of bladder stones inour ptts.Twenty one patients presenting with bladder stones underwenttransurethral cystolithotripsy . The indication for cystolithotripsy was stonessize < or = 3 cm. Access was obtained with an 18 ch Wolf urethroscope and pneumaticenergy was applied through a fibre under video guidance.
From January 2013 to February 2014 we treated 21 ptt.with vesical stones. 18 ptts. were stone-free at 2 weeks postoperatively .In 3ptts. with multiple stones (3-10 stones) when secondprocedure was failure, we performed opencystolithotripsy .The mean age was 38 years (range 26-52 years). The operating time was 35 minutes (range 30 -50minutes). The mean length of hospital stay was 2.2 (range 2-3)days. An 18-20 ch tripling urinary catheter was placed forone night in all patients for lavage.
