Board 1

,
In recent years, percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) has been replaced open surgery in treating renal stone.Nephrostomy tubes with different diameters was the standard post operative method for drainage aiming at tamponade bleeding (1,2).However, postoperative pain and prolonged hospital stay proved to be its responsibility (3,4).So recently it is omitted and replaced by either JJ stent or externalized ureteric catheter (1,5), which is known as tubeless PNL.More advancement in PNL are omitting both nephrostomy and ureteric catheter or JJ stent; this called totally tubeless PNL(3,6).
