Reducing disparities in cardiovascular outcomes: using innovative communication methods and social marketing in Harlem and Greater New York City

Wednesday, 12 October, 2011 - 14:16
Board 6

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, responsible for more deaths than the next six disease categories combined [1], and disparities exist in communities of color [2]. Improving the outcome in acute situations depends on immediate intervention after the onset of symptoms and calling 911 [2]. This study explored a model of a community engagement combined with a targeted social marketing strategy.
